2016 RIC-WHF Military Sports Camp

All Day Event

2016 RIC-WHF Sports camp registration closes May 16. 2016.

The 2016 RIC-WHF Military Sports Camp application process is now open!

Designed for men and women who have served or are serving in the US Armed Forces and now have a physical disability of any kind, RIC-WHF Military Sports Camp provides those with spinal cord injuries, amputations, stroke, MS, ALS, TBI with mobility impairment, and other orthopedic impairments a chance to experience a wide variety of adaptive sports, instructed by elite level coaches, while enjoying the great city of Chicago.

Attendees are selected through an online application process as spots are limited. Camp is provided FREE of charge to those accepted and is open to service members of all eras. The application process is open to first time attendees only (previous applicants may apply if they have not previously attended). Applications will close May 16, 2016.

TO APPLY – Please follow the link to complete the online application.

Q: What does FREE entail?

A: Covered costs include a flight to/from Chicago (thanks to the support of United Airlines) or a travel reimbursement if travelling by train, bus or other means of transit; hotel; food; local transportation; sports equipment & instruction; select Chicago tourism activities and more.

Q: Do I qualify if I have PTSD?

A: Many of our camp attendees have a diagnosis of PTSD. However, as we are a physical rehabilitation hospital, applicants must also have a physical disability of some type to qualify.

Q: What if I need a care giver?

A: There is a spot on the camp application for care giver information. You will apply along with your care giver. If accepted to camp, your care giver is part of that acceptance and will be covered the same as you (they will also get a flight, hotel, food, transportation, etc.). Applicants must provide their own care giver. RIC cannot provide care givers. Please note: care givers are covered/accepted for medical/ADL needs only. If you have questions about a specific situation or needs, please feel free to contact me directly at ddaniels@ric.orgor 312-238-5008.

Q: Does it matter where I live?

A: It does not matter where you currently reside so long as you served or are serving in the US Armed Forces.

Q: Does it matter when or where I was injured?

A: No, the application process is open to anyone who has served in the US Armed Forces and now has a physical disability of any kind.

Q: Should I be descriptive in my application?

A: YES – The selection process heavily takes into account each applicant’s reasons for wanting to attend camp as well as their goals for what they would like to get out of camp.

Q: What if I have questions about camp or need assistance completing the application?

A: Please contact Derek Daniels at or 312-238-5008 and he will be happy to help.

We look forward to reading your applications for the 9th annual RIC-WHF Military Sports Camp!
